Hey there folks! We are coming to you today with a recap of Nintendo’s latest Direct showcase. These things are always a good time and I can’t wait to see what we have in store. Especially since this should cover a lot of the upcoming winter releases. As always, the Direct itself is embedded at the top in case you would like to watch it for yourself, but we are going to cover every highlight. Without further delay, let’s get this recap underway!
Monster Hunter Rise Large DLC
Nintendo kicked off the Direct with a rather Gothic looking trailer. It depicted a large dragon like creature against a large castle. This is the announcement of the Sunbreak expansion for Monster Hunter Rise. This expansion is set to release in the Summer of 2022.
Superstars in Action
Mario Party Superstars came crashing in with another trailer. Showcasing some more boards that will be making their return. And reminding us that the friendship testing game comes out on 29th Oct. 2021. I am super excited for this and was happy to see that it will launch with online play available. No having to wait for over a year for this title to kick off. That’s for sure.
Cards and Die Roll, What Could Go Wrong?
This was certainly an intriguing entry. I am a big fan of RPG’s and Tabletop games and this certainly seems to embody the spirit of those themes. Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars mixes a card based RPG with a luck based roll system to create a unique experience for sure. Looking forward to this one and while we didn’t get a release date, we do have a demo available now.
Mental Detective: Final Cut
If you don’t know Disco Elysium by now than I am going to say you were living under a rock where video game news is concerned. This is a superb game and is making its way to the Nintendo Switch as a digital release on 12 Oct. 2021, with a physical release coming out in early 2022l.
Age of the Egg: Expansion Pass
A new bright and shiny, and overly cinematic trailer was shown featuring the upcoming Wave 2 for the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass. Towards the end we at least got to see some gameplay of the upcoming playable characters. I played this game upon release and I did enjoy it, but there is certainly a limit to how much you can drag out a Warriors styles game. That being said, Nintendo certainly loves stretching them out. Looking at you Fire Emblem Warriors and all of the DLC for that game.
Final Fantasy Kart Racing
Okay, even the cynic in me found Chocobo GP absolutely adorable. It seems to be pulling characters from all over the Final Fantasy lore for this one. Also has some unique battle item mechanics unique to it. Plus the game will host a 64 player 8×8 elimination mode and I am just amazed at that kind of mode existing in a kart racer. Chocobo GP comes exclusively to the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
Final Fake Out
While I would have bet on Nintendo talking about the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter during this presentation. It seemed to have happened and didn’t. We found out that Sakurai will host his final Smash Presents revealing the last DLC fighter on 5th Oct. 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the character is shadow dropped on that same day. If not, it can almost be certain that they will release the final fighter in December. Come on Nintendo, give me Geno already.
Kirby After the Apocalypse
Now, this next entry was leaked a couple hours prior to the Direct. Nevertheless, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is looking rather good. It appears to be a more open world, 3D Kirby game and I am curious to see how that plays out. Release window is Spring 2022.
Animal Crossing New Content
I guess with the Smash series wrapping up their special presentation, Nintendo needs to pick another series to make presentations for. This presentation will discuss an upcoming free content update coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons this November. I would keep an eye on our Twitter as we will certainly share the date of this presentation when it is announced.
More Mario Golf
Another content update is coming to Mario Golf Super Rush. Two new golfers are hitting the course, Koopa Troopa and Ninji. Plus two additional courses are coming your way as well. If you already own the game than by the time you are reading this the update should be installed. That’s right, this is another shadow dropped update to coincide with the Nintendo Direct. Also, I love that they are supporting Mario Golf Super Rush so much after launch. Can’t wait to see what else they add in the future.
Disney Enchanted its Way Onto the Nintendo Switch
Travel through various Disney worlds in this 3DS title reborn for the Nintendo Switch. Disney’s Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition will be coming to the Nintendo Switch with all of the DLC from the original 3DS title in tow. Really looks like a cute game to help cement the Nintendo Switch as a console for the whole family.
Such Weird Timing
This one is certainly a bit of weird timing. During the Nintendo Direct today we got a trailer for a port of the original Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic on the Nintendo Switch. This port launches on 11th, Nov 2021. This is a strange time for the announcement as Sony just announced their remake of this title for PS5 and PC. Still excited for this and will probably get the port.
Dying Light Time
Got two announcements today for the Dying Light series and its presence on the Nintendo Switch. First off, we got a trailer revealing that a Cloud streaming verion of Dying Light 2: Stay Human will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on 4th Feb. 2022. I am not sure how I feel about this being a cloud version. At first I figured it was because the Nintendo Switch would struggle to handle the games performance. That was until they made their second announcement and I was reminded of it.
The second announcement they made was a reminder that Dying Light: Platinum Edition is still coming this year. In fact it releases on 19th Oct. 2021. This will include the first game with all of the DLC and if the Nintendo Switch can handle that, well why can’t it handle the second one on its own? Makes me wonder if Dying Light: Platinum Edition will have some performance issues when the hordes get too big. Only time will tell here.
Love Some Strategy Game here
Alright, so I may be a little biased with this announcement. First off, it seems that Project Triangle Strategy has decided to just be called Triangle Strategy after all. Second, the game is looking better than ever. Also, the trailer shows off several features and adjustments that were made to the title based on feedback from the demo released in 2020. Can’t wait to get my hands on the full version of this game and we finally have a release date of 4th Mar. 2022.
Obligatory Dread Reminder
There was no way in hell we were getting through this Nintendo Direct without Metroid Dread coming up. They gave us a nice gameplay trailer with a little more story background of what we are doing there to begin with. The staff at BDG are super excited for this game and can’t wait for 8th Oct. 2021 to get here already. I personally would have loved to get my hands on the new amiibos for this game, but sadly they were scalped up. Also shown in the trailer, Nintendo has a website dedicated to Metroid Dread that has a ton of background information on the upcoming title. You can find that website here.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Man, that just sounds like a mouthful. Well, Nintendo has finally announced their upgrading NSO service. For an additional fee, users can play N64 and Sega Genesis games on their Nintendo Switch. Nintendo also revealed a wireless N64 and Sega Genesis controller that can be ordered from their website directly if you are an NSO member. Some other key important bits. The libraries will be expanded as time goes on just like the current libraries and the plans that exist for NSO will remain available for purchase as well. Also, a lot of the titles in these emulators will support online play. This Expansion Pack plan will be added sometime in late October and Nintendo will release more information on exact date and pricing closer to the date. Be sure to keep an eye on our Twitter as we will be sure to share this information as soon as it goes live.

What a shock this was to most people watching the Nintendo Direct. ActRaiser is back in a remastered form called ActRaiser Renaissance. For those unfamiliar with the series, you play as God against evil. The gameplay is split between 2D Action Platformer and an overhead world building game. A few games of late have attempted to do this same premise, but they have fallen flat. Let’s see if one of the originals can hold the throne. New content not in the original will also be added in order to provide a greater challenge.
Weird Mario Casting
While it was all but confirmed awhile back that a Mario Bros. movie was in the works, we got official confirmation of it as well as the cast for the main characters. Can I just say, and I realize I am in the minority, but I really feel that Chris Pratt is overused right now. I am sure he will be fine, but you have Charles Martinet, the original voice of Mario, involved in this project and demoted him to a cameo appearance as a few characters. It just makes no sense from a gaming fan standpoint. But, no one said that this was being made for gamers.
A brand new trailer for Splatoon 3 was released today. They revealed the location where the game takes place. Some new weapons and special skills. As well as the focus of the story being about the return of mammals within the world. Shaping up to be another weird time but what else would you expect from this title.
Gun-slinging Witchy Goodness
Nintendo closed out the Direct today by showing us that Bayonetta 3 is infact still in production. In fact, we even got a release window for 2022. I just have to say that I loved the fake-out that Platinum Games tried with the trailer and using the mascot from their other title Astral Chain. Real nice touch and gave me a good chuckle.
Well, that is everything that Nintendo showed us during their Direct. What were some of your favorites? Anything surprise you like it surprised us? Feel free to let us know and make sure to follow us on Twitter to keep up with all of your gaming news.
