5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is perfectly setup for peaceful snow days. As the game changes with the seasons, the Winter backdrop recently added is fitting for this time of year. Build a snow family. Catch glistening flakes as they flutter to the ground. Craft holiday themed decor and strut around in an ugly sweater. It’s all there and makes Animal Crossing a must play this Winter.

4. Vambrace: Cold Soul

Vambrace: Cold Soul has the gritty edge of Darkest Dungeon where every step could be your last. Its snow clad backdrop adds a chilling ambience which is perfect for the days you don’t dare stray outside. If your house is enveloped in a thick blizzard, Vambrace is the best RPG to chill your bones.

3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Fus Ro Duh! A Winter gaming list wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the icy tundras and frozen mountains dotting Skyrim’s landscape. Whether you’re a frosty Nord or a race from a warmer climate, spending time in Skyrim is full of adventure. Dragons breathe spouts of ice. Frost Trolls can topple you in one hit, and don’t forget the Giants with Mammoths in tow. When it’s snowing outside, Hearthfire is where I like to spend my evenings.

2. The Red Lantern

The Red Lantern offers a beautiful tale of strength, survival and persistence. Set in snowy forests of Alaska, you experience a journey of self discovery with a team of sled dogs. Random encounters will have you revisiting this arctic world over and over again as you meet various wildlife and hunt for survival. The serene pace and superb narration make this the perfect game to unwind when the wind kicks up outside.

1. The Long Dark

The Long Dark is perhaps my favorite game to play when it’s snowing out. With several different modes and challenges, The Long Dark is teeming with content. You’re a bush pilot who has crashed in the Alaskan void with scant few supplies on hand. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, you have to fight for your life with every step. Bears and wolves hunt you down. That is, if the cold doesn’t get you first.
