Yesterday’s News Today | Presentations AHOY!

Well! What a week it’s been, right? With two hefty presentations, there’s plenty to talk about, but on top of that there’s also a bunch of other things that happened too that we can talk about! So many things! ALL OF THE TIME! Let’s kick this pig!

Wait, TimeSplitters?!

Many moons ago, a game called Homefront: The Revolution came out and I feel like a lot of people forgot that it even released. Anyways, the folks who made it, Deep Silver, had one of the most wonderful easter eggs put into the game: The ENTIRETY of TimeSplitters 2. For those of you not in the know, TimeSplitters 2 is one of the greatest multiplayer FPS games of its era. All that nostalgia you might have for GoldenEye 007, or Perfect Dark are mashed up into one glorious experience with impressive results. Seriously, do yourself a favor and give it a go.

Anyways, in the main game, there’s an arcade cabinet that lets you play a few levels of the original game, but apparently there was a code that let you play THE ENTIRE THING but it was lost to the winds of time. Well, it seems those winds have come back to bless us as the code was once again recovered (at least for the PS4 version). If you enter the code: L2+Up, L2+Up, Down, L2+Right, R2+Left, R2+Circle, L2+Triangle, L2+Triangle, R2+Square, L2+X then you can play the entire story mode! L2+R2+Left, L2+R2+Down, L2+R2+Left, L2+R2+Circle, R2+Left, L2+R2+Left, L2+R2+Down, L2+R2+Triangle, R2+Square, L2+X gets you the arcade mode (which is just the best) and entering R2+Circle, L2+R2+Left, L2+R2+Circle, L2+R2+Down, L2+Right, L2+Up, L2+Triangle, L2+R2+X, R2+Square, L2+X gives you access to the surprisingly hard Challenge mode. Guys, TimeSplitters 2 is incredible, and you should do whatever you can to play it.

Ret 2 Go!

I am a firm believer of literally everything getting a Switch port. Just throw EVERYTHING on that system. It’s not just because I’m a diehard Nintendo fanboy, but I think that the ability to have everything on the go, coupled with the ability to suspend any game whenever I feel like it makes the Switch the ideal way for a busy guy with kids to actually play the games I want to play. That being said, it’s exciting to see the original Shantae for the Game Boy Color coming on a console I still have that doesn’t also need Double-A batteries. If you’re new to the Shantae games, just know that the absolute worst Shantae game is a 7/10 and they’re all charming and wonderful. Look forward to this hitting digital shelves next week (April 22).

Get That Garbage Out Of Here

If you don’t know what Super Seducer 1 and 2 are, then consider yourself lucky. In what can only be described as sleazy at best, both of these games were originally slated for release on the Switch, but recently were seen to be cancelled after Nintendo after concerns of explicit content. Some of you out there are probably going “but Doom Eternal showing massive gore and whatnot”, and to that I say “Doom Eternal doesn’t teach you to be a horrible human being”. Super Seducer is all about learning how to seduce women (as the game pretty overtly shows) but it’s in a pretty gross and manipulative way. Way to go Nintendo. This game is nasty in all the wrong ways. Eew.

How wonderful! Nintendo announced that there would be an Indie World presentation on Wednesday of this week and it was just as wonderful as we all hoped it would have been. We got some announcements for games coming out in the distant future, near future and the present as a few of the games announced were in our hands later that day. We didn’t make an article about it, but we certainly tweeted the heck out of it. Big hits for me included a great trailer for the previously announced TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge coming to Switch, The House of the Dead remake, There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension, and a surprise with Oxenfree 2! It was great and I look forward to everything coming out eventually (even Fez!)

Jam Session!

Capcom did two amazing things this week, so let’s talk about the first one. Early this week, Capcom decided to just drop a stack of soundtracks on most streaming services (and for purchase). Now, the fact that soundtracks are now available is cool, but the fact that the four albums were Okami, Devil May Cry V and TWO DINO CRISIS soundtracks is the the big deal. The fact that Capcom gave Dino Crisis the time of day is huge and it certainly built up some hype for a remake/new iteration of the series. I mean, DINOSAUR SURVIVAL GAME! I need it. I need it NOW.

I Can’t Believe This Took So Long

Power A, makers of fine budget quality controllers decided to do the smartest thing imaginable and make a set of high end controllers with customizable buttons and faceplates. Seriously, as a guy who customized his controllers to no end, all I really want when it comes to controllers is the ability to make them look the exact way I want them to. Instead of buying third party parts and faceplates, now I can buy in to a great controller and get super cool parts that are not only pretty, but easy to replace AND I AM IN for it. Given, the buy in price for the FUSION controller is a pretty penny around 100+ per controller, but I really want it. Gimme gimme.

Your Monthly Reminder The Metroid Prime 4 Is Never Coming Out

Every time I see that Nintendo is making an announcement of some sort, I always look for the people who are so angry that we don’t get any news on Metroid Prime 4. And I laugh SO HARD, guys. Metroid Prime 4 is so early on in development that we likely won’t see it until 2024. How do I know this? Well, Retro Studios just looked to hire another key programmer to their team. Sure, they just hired an animator from Dreamworks, but this game just seems like it’s so far out in the future that there will be books written on how long this game took to make. Mark my words.

LABO Heads Out

Not that Nintendo has given LABO the time of day since it came out, but it looks like LABO is finally heading the way of the dodo. Nintendo recently removed the entire LABO page from their website, which certainly means that we shouldn’t be hearing much more on the subject. Apparently there might be one more surprise, but if it’s not LABO VR support then I’m pretty much done with it too. Sure, the concept was great, but I never really found my stride with it. Whatever. Next month we’ll find out about Nintendo’s next crazy thing: Switch support for Tesla. Probably.

Resident Evil Demo-Trescu

Capcom’s second event this week was a Resident Evil presentation on Thursday. We got a little more info on the story at large and a few more scenes were shown off. Fans got more intense fan service of Lady “Step-On-Me” Dimetrescu. Everybody won. The bigger reveals were an announcement of a Resident Evil 4 style Mercenaries mode and a much awaited second demo for the game. The timing is weird for it is really strange, but it looks like there are two parts to the demo in question: The Village and The Castle. Each demo available, but you can only play both demos for a combined 60 minutes. It’s a cool idea and I’m sure people will be spamming my twitter feeds with every imaginable angle of this giantess of a woman. Yeesh.

Alright! That’s a bunch of stuff that happened! There’ll be more in next week’s hooplah. For now, It’s very early in the morning and I need to get to bed. Thanks for stopping by folks. See you all next week.
