[Review] SwitchBlade

SwitchBlade

The Nintendo Switch is the go to place for inventors and visionaries at the moment, as it’s momentum seemingly shows no signs of slowing.

With the power of the internet and platforms such as Kickstarter to showcase their products, people with an idea can become business men over night. The measure of how good of a business man they are rides and dies with the product itself.

The Quality of Life initiative

In my 1st official product feature for the QOL initiative – to channel my own Nick Fury, I have looked at the SwitchBlade, an exciting new product for, you guessed it, the Nintendo Switch.

Bling Bling!

Looking at the SwitchBlade, it begs the question, is this an essential piece of equipment or just a really lovely vanity accessory?

The answer is, it’s a bit of both really.

Originally created to protect the rails sitting at either side of the Nintendo Switch, from dust and debris, and to offer a form of protection from bumps and minor drops; in much the same way that a phone case does, the idea was solid and the designs were utterly gorgeous.

Can we kick it?

The addition, at the eleventh hour, of each SwitchBlade containing a kickstand was a game changer. All of a sudden, this product, smaller than the Joy Con strap rails, transformed from nicely designed tabletop bling to the go to stand for Nintendo Switch.

I used to carry my Hori kickstand around with me as it offered 3 different viewing angles and whilst not being the most cumbersome of product, the SwitchBlades seamlessly slide into my PowerA Breath of the Wild Travel Case, along with a spare set of Joy Cons and the Grip rails to boot.

View to a kill

The SwitchBlade has a fully adjustable viewing angle. Any measure of degrees from flat to the table, to upright is manageable and offers style and substance, allowing you to avoid any potential glare by simply changing the viewing angle.

Conclusion

The SwitchBlade may have started as a humble aesthetic enhancement, a vanity item if you like, offering some basic protection for the Nintendo Switch. What is has evolved into however is the quintessential tabletop accessory that every one who chooses to play in this style should strongly consider backing.

A must buy product for the disconcerting table top gamer

Back the SwitchBlade right now on Kickstarter, here.
